After week 12, Off Camera Flash Backlighting at Night (having practiced shooting in pitch black conditions), I was kind of excited for this weeks challenge. We are still out of town this week and spending precious time making new memories with family. One of those memories has been playing cards. Since it was happening in the evening, I asked if we could take a moment so I could get the challenge shot made. They have been following my work and were happy to oblige. Karen held a flashlight above my husbands head, reflecting the light off of the cards and onto his face. I really like the way the cards to the left appear to be floating as the table fades away into darkness. I think some smoke floating around this scene would be pretty awesome. I also would have loved to get a close up portrait of my father in law smoking a cigarette with the smoke swirling around him…maybe I’ll have to ask about gettin’ that one because it sounds really awesome and I think it would suit his personality, if he feels up to takin’ it.
