Johnny Gasque, Superhero Extraordinaire

Andrea Crawleys Lemonade Stand rPhew!  I really thought I was out of the challenge this week.  But I am apparently blessed with a superhero.  Can you spot him?

His name is Johnny Gasque and he came to my rescue just in the nick of time this week.  I was very worried about ordering the wrong triggers for my camera(s) and flash, and with a looming family emergency in the works, I hesitated to make a purchase of a set of triggers to set my flash off, remotely, when I snap my picture.  I was ONE day too late ordering! *The triggers I ordered should arrive tomorrow for use for future challenges.  I am one giddy girl right now. 🙂

This wonderful man allowed me to use his triggers, top of the line Pocket Wizards, for practicing with!  How cool is that?  Although it was not necessary, he also lent the use of his Nikon D300, which was super exciting to play with, too.  Unfortunately, it uses a different system for saving images than I have access to.  So I took images and played with it but was unable to save anything for sharing.  None the less, it was great fun for me and I really appreciate Johnny lending me so much EXPENSIVE equipment at the last minute so I could remain in this challenge.  Please take the time to check out his smugmug page; he specializes in outstanding pictures of local high school sports teams and stunning landscape images to die for.  You can find that page –here.

I only had Saturday to get a night image so my family and I headed to my husband’s office building to find an empty inner office.  It did have windows so we covered those up, set up the camera and flash system, posed, and turned the lights off.  That room was BLACK.  All of the lighting in the room came from the flash and the light bounced off of the reflector!  Needless to say, there was a lot of going back and forth to the light switch, flash, and camera, and back to the light switch and camera.  Here is one of the images from that set:

My Boys. They make me happy…usually. 😉

I used the same technique later that night when we got home.  It was just too cold to go outside for this beach lovin’ baby; the wind was practically ice and blowing hard.  I hung up a black sheet in my son’s bedroom and draped it across his bed.  We brought our Dixie Darlin’ in and had her climb up onto his bed for yet another photo shoot.  I’m not happy with the edit work of the background…gotta figure out an easier way to smooth out the wrinkles in post but it is still one of my favorite shots of the day.  She was just trying to get up when I snapped this and she looks so adorable I just have to share it:

However, there is an image I had in mind to get for this weeks challenge.  The shot I got is not my ideal and I want to work on it and get it better later.  For the time I had to get the shot, though, I love it!  This is my Week 12 Challenge entry:

Our daughter holding onto Daddy’s hand. Or maybe he’s holding onto hers. She’s growing up entirely too quickly, but well, thankfully!
