Last week hosted Valentine’s Day. A friend of mine also referred to it as Single’s Awareness Day. hehe
John 15:12 (HCSB)
“This is my command: Love one another as I have loved you.”
These are the words of Jesus while teaching the disciples, shortly before his crucifixion.
I am always disappointed when people rain on this celebration of love. Usually it is because they feel like they have no (romantic) love to celebrate. However the children’s music director at the church we visited this morning made an excellent point. When God created Adam, He knew Adam would sin against Him. He chose to create Adam anyway. When God created me, He knew I would sin against Him….a multitude of times. Yet He chose to create me anyway. And He didn’t stop there. He knew that sin would separate me from Him eternally so He made a bridge for me to cross if I so willed…and Jesus died a merciless death to create that bridge for me. What greater love could I possibly celebrate?
People often hear a prosperity message preached and flock to the pastors who preach them. But if you continue to read beyond this verse, you will see what you are promised when you choose to honor God in your life: Persecution. What the world considers prosperity is not what God promises us in this life. He promises to give us what we need for what we are facing now.
During this month, I have faced the death of my husband’s mawmaw and watched my father in law suffer immensely through that as well as being hospitalized. We enjoyed snow during this period and lots of rain. So, Valentine’s Day created a perfect opportunity for God to interject some much needed beauty into all our lives. My sister in laws boyfriend brought her some roses which bloomed out beautifully and made me want to take some pictures of them. What beautiful colors God has given us to enjoy. I wish I could have smelled them, too, because they surely were aromatic!
